Wyze made cheap smart cameras mainstream, and it still sells some of the best-value gear around. Its weak spots are security and how much runs through its cloud.

The good news: Wyze keeps growing its lineup, and its cameras keep recording without a subscription if you add a microSD card.
The bad news: In September 2023 and again in February 2024, Wyze glitches showed some customers images from other people’s cameras. The second time, about 13,000 users received thumbnails from cameras that were not theirs. Wyze also ended support for its first camera in 2022 because of a security flaw it could not fix, and as a private startup it has far less of a cushion than Amazon or Google.
If you own Wyze
- Put a microSD card in your cameras so they keep recording even when Wyze’s cloud has problems.
- Turn on two-factor authentication in the Wyze app.
- Think twice before pointing any cloud camera, Wyze or otherwise, at the most private rooms in your house.
