LIFX makes colorful Wi-Fi bulbs and light strips that work without a hub. It nearly went under in 2022 when its Australian parent company collapsed, and US lighting maker Feit Electric bought it.

The good news: Feit Electric has kept investing in LIFX since 2022, with new Matter products at CES in 2025 and 2026 and a Thread upgrade for its Matter lights that went into public beta in August 2026. LIFX lights have long been controllable on your local network, which is why they work so well with Home Assistant.

The bad news: The 2022 collapse of its old parent, Buddy Technologies, is a reminder that LIFX has been close to the edge before. Feit is far more stable, but it is a private company and shares little about its finances.

If you own LIFX

  • Add your lights to Apple Home, Google Home or Home Assistant through Matter or local control, so they do not depend on the LIFX app.
  • Install firmware updates when they arrive, since Thread support for current lights comes that way.
