The good news: Vivint has millions of paying customers and a large owner, so its service is very unlikely to disappear. Because a technician installs and maintains everything, owners also get help when equipment needs replacing.

The bad news: Vivint gear is built to work with Vivint’s own service, so the app and most smart features stop being useful without a plan. In 2023, activist investor Elliott Management called NRG’s purchase of Vivint one of the worst deals in its sector, so a future sale is possible.
