The good news: Hubitat was built around local control, so your devices and automations keep working without the internet, and without Hubitat’s servers. It keeps updating its hubs, with more Matter support and Bluetooth added in 2026.

The bad news: Hubitat is a small company and shares little about its finances. Unlike Home Assistant, its software is not open source, so if the company ever stopped, there would be no updates.

If you own Hubitat

  • Make regular backups of your hub, so you can restore your setup on a new hub if needed.
  • Use Zigbee, Z-Wave or Matter devices, which also work with other hubs if you ever switch.
