Neato made laser-guided robot vacuums known for their D shape. Its owner, Vorwerk, closed Neato in 2023 and promised to keep the cloud running for at least five years. In late 2025 it shut the cloud down anyway.

What happened

When Vorwerk closed Neato in 2023, it said a small team would keep Neato’s cloud secure for at least five years. On October 6, 2025, it told owners by email that it could no longer run the old systems safely, and the cloud was switched off before the end of the year.

US owners got no refund or discount. In April 2026, Vorwerk offered a free Kobold robot to some recent buyers in Europe. Many asked Vorwerk to release the cloud software so the community could keep the robots running.

What still works

  • Cleaning from the button on the robot still runs a full clean.
  • Warranties that were still valid stay valid, according to Neato.

If you still own a Neato robot

  1. Use the start button for a full clean. You will not get maps or room-by-room cleaning anymore.
  2. Keep spare brushes, filters and batteries while you can still find them.
  3. If you replace it, check our robot vacuum ratings and pick a robot that can still clean from its own buttons.

The lesson

A written promise of five more years of support did not survive a parent company’s change of plans. Buy for what a device does without the cloud, not for what the company promises.
