SoundTouch was Bose’s Wi-Fi speaker line, with built-in music services and preset buttons. Bose ended cloud support on May 6, 2026, but unlike many shutdowns, it left the speakers a local app and published the developer documentation.

What happened

Bose first set February 18, 2026, as the end date and later pushed it to May 6, 2026. On that day the SoundTouch app updated itself to a version that talks to speakers directly over your home network.

Presets may still play, but Bose does not promise they keep working and they can no longer be changed. Bose also deleted SoundTouch usage data by May 15, 2026.

What still works

  • Streaming through Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify Connect and AUX.
  • Soundbars still play TV sound through HDMI or optical.
  • Setup, volume, play and pause, and grouping speakers from the local app.

If you still own Bose SoundTouch speakers

  1. Save your favorite playlists in your music app and play them through AirPlay, Spotify Connect or Bluetooth.
  2. Keep the speakers on a secure home network, since they no longer get security updates.
  3. Do not count on presets. Set up your favorites in your music app instead.

The lesson

Bose showed a better way to end a product: a local app, open documentation and speakers that keep playing. That is what every shutdown should look like.
