The good news: Amcrest cameras record locally and work with almost any recorder software through RTSP, so they would keep working without Amcrest. The company says it will keep supporting existing customers.

The bad news: New FCC rules cut off Amcrest’s supply of Dahua-made cameras, and new products now come out under a different brand. The Amcrest name itself may fade, and future app updates for older cameras are less certain.

If you own Amcrest

  • Keep your cameras on your home network, and record to a recorder or memory card.
  • If you buy new, AMLINK cameras work with Amcrest recorders, according to the company.
