The good news: Amazon owns Blink and keeps releasing new models, and Blink has not had Ring’s privacy headlines or a history of switching off old cameras. You can also save clips locally on a USB drive plugged into the Sync Module 2, so a subscription is optional.
The bad news: Like most cheap cameras, Blink depends on Amazon’s cloud for live view and alerts. If that went away, the cameras would lose most of what makes them useful.
If you own Blink
- Plug a USB drive into your Sync Module 2 so clips are saved at home, with or without a plan.
- Keep the Sync Module on a reliable spot on your Wi-Fi, since everything runs through it.
