The good news: When Bose ended SoundTouch, it kept the speakers working over Bluetooth, AirPlay and Spotify Connect, and published technical documents so others could build their own tools. That is better than most shutdowns.

The bad news: SoundTouch owners still lost presets, music services in the app and Alexa. Bose’s newer speakers could face the same once Bose moves on.

If you own Bose

  • Use AirPlay, Spotify Connect or Bluetooth, which keep working without the Bose app.
  • If you own SoundTouch speakers, see our SoundTouch card for what still works.
