The good news: Amazon publishes how long each current Fire TV model gets updates, with most covered until the end of 2030. That is longer and clearer than most streaming brands.

The bad news: Amazon is moving its sticks from Android to Vega OS, which blocks installing apps from outside its store. Amazon has also switched off other gadgets before, like the Dash Button and Echo Look.

If you own Fire TV

  • Check your model’s support end date before buying a replacement.
  • If you rely on sideloaded apps, stick with an Android-based model.
