The good news: Lorex keeps your video at home on a recorder or memory card, with no monthly fee. If Lorex’s servers went away, your cameras would keep recording.

The bad news: Lorex was owned by Dahua until 2022, one day before US regulators barred new Dahua equipment. Nebraska sued Lorex in 2025 and Texas in 2026, claiming it still uses Dahua parts and systems and misled buyers about security. Lorex has not lost those cases, but they could lead to restrictions on what it can sell.

If you own Lorex

  • Keep your recorder and cameras updated, and change the default passwords.
  • If you are worried about the security claims, keep the cameras off the internet and view them only on your home network.
