The good news: Lutron has been around for over 60 years, is privately owned and does not need to chase quick profits. Caseta switches talk to a Smart Bridge on your own network, and that bridge works locally with Apple Home and Home Assistant, so your lights keep working even if Lutron’s cloud has a bad day.
The bad news is small: Caseta uses Lutron’s own radio system rather than an open standard, so the switches only work through a Lutron bridge.
If you own Caseta
- Keep your Smart Bridge plugged in and on your network. It is what everything runs through.
- Add it to Apple Home or Home Assistant as a local backup to the Lutron app.
