Why 83%

  • Starting point80%A smaller, loss-making company that agreed to be sold to SwitchBot’s parent in 2026.
  • Track record−1No shutdowns, but its app has a shaky reputation with owners.
  • Works without the cloud+4An early Matter and Thread backer, so newer gear works without Nanoleaf’s app.
  • Our estimate83%

The good news: Nanoleaf was one of the first big brands to bet on Matter and Thread, so newer Nanoleaf gear works in Apple Home, Google Home or SmartThings without Nanoleaf’s own app. The new owner also plans to keep Nanoleaf running as its own brand.

The bad news: Nanoleaf is small, has posted losses for several years and is changing hands. New owners often trim product lines and apps, and older non-Matter panels are the most exposed if that happens.

If you own Nanoleaf

  • Add Matter-capable Nanoleaf gear to Apple Home, Google Home or SmartThings, so you do not depend on the Nanoleaf app.
  • For older panels without Matter, keep their firmware updated while support is still there.
