The good news: Roborock is large, profitable and growing, the opposite of iRobot’s situation. It has not switched off any of its robots so far.

The bad news: Like almost every robot vacuum, the smart part (maps, room cleaning, schedules) runs through Roborock’s app and cloud. Without it, you are left with a vacuum you start by pressing a button.

If you own Roborock

  • Keep the robot’s firmware updated through the app.
  • Learn which button starts a full clean, so you have a fallback if the app ever stops working.
