The good news: Signify is the world’s biggest lighting company and has kept WiZ going next to Hue for years. It added Matter to many bulbs people already owned, which let them work with Apple Home for the first time, and Home Assistant can control WiZ lights over your own network.
The bad news: WiZ bulbs use Wi-Fi, so a big setup puts a lot of devices on your network, and setup still runs through the WiZ app and account. As the cheaper of Signify’s two brands, WiZ could be the first one trimmed if Signify ever cuts back.
If you own WiZ
- Add your bulbs to Apple Home, Google Home or Home Assistant through Matter, so they do not depend on the WiZ app.
- If you have a lot of bulbs, check that your router can handle that many Wi-Fi devices.
