The good news: Yale is a big, well-known brand, and it gets the new features in its family, including Matter. Because the Assure Lock 2 takes swappable modules, you can move it to Matter without replacing the lock.

The bad news: The 2023 app switch outside North America showed that Yale is willing to move owners to a new app, and that can break your setup for a while. Wi-Fi models also depend on Yale’s cloud for remote access.

If you own Yale

  • If your lock takes modules, a Matter module lets you control it from Apple Home, Google Home or Home Assistant without Yale’s app.
  • Keep the key or keypad code handy, so an app problem never locks you out.
