HA App Drops Older Apple OS Support

Home Assistant has announced that starting with version 2026.8.0, its Companion app will officially no longer support iOS 15, watchOS 8, or macOS 11. The upcoming version 2026.7.1 will be the final compatible release for these older Apple platforms.

If you are running an older iPhone or Apple Watch, you might be worried about losing access to your smart home. However, fewer than one percent of Home Assistant users currently rely on these aging operating systems. By officially dropping support, the development team is no longer held back by outdated code limitations. This means the vast majority of users will soon see highly requested features arrive, such as advanced widgets and fresh Apple Watch complications.

Moving forward, the Companion app will require a minimum of iOS 16.4, watchOS 9, or macOS 12. This shift aligns directly with Apple’s own upcoming developer tools update, which drops support for macOS 11 and watchOS 8 this September.

If your device is simply too old to make the upgrade jump, don’t panic! You will not be locked out of your smart home. You can still fully control your setup through the web-based browser interface, which remains fully supported and will continue to receive regular monthly updates. Additionally, the last compatible app version (2026.7.1) will remain safely available on the App Store.
