The Core Update

Govee expanded its smart lighting lineup with the release of the Strip Light 2. This new light strip comes in two sizes and uses Matter over Wi-Fi. That means it can connect directly to major smart home ecosystems like Apple Home without needing a separate hub. The 5-meter version is priced at 59.99 Euros, while the 10-meter version costs 94.99 Euros. They are available now on the official Govee store, with Amazon availability expected to follow very soon.

Why You Should Care

Normally, mixing different smart home brands can cause headaches. Because this new strip uses Matter, it acts as a universal translator. This protocol is a massive step forward for device connectivity standards, ensuring your devices talk to each other seamlessly. You can control the basic power and brightness through Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa right out of the box. You do not have to rely solely on the manufacturer app for everyday voice controls. However, if you want to use the complex lighting animations, you will still need to open the dedicated Govee app.

The Technical Details Explained

The Strip Light 2 uses a technology called LuminBlend+ and RGBWWIC LEDs. In plain English, that means the strip has independent computer chips inside. Instead of the entire strip glowing only one solid color at a time, you can have different sections glow different colors simultaneously. You can create a flowing rainbow effect across a single strip.

It also supports white light tuning from a very warm 1000 Kelvin all the way to a cool 10,000 Kelvin. The brightness hits 155 lumens per meter. That gives you up to 775 lumens for the 5-meter version and up to 1550 lumens for the 10-meter option.

If the strip is too long for your space, you can easily cut it to the perfect size. Once cut, you just use the Govee app to recalibrate the length. This step ensures that your custom segmented lighting effects continue to display correctly without any blank spots at the end of the strip.
