Ring just announced a massive upgrade to their apartment-friendly lineup. The brand new Ring Peephole Camera 2K is officially launching in August 2026 for roughly 110 dollars. It features a sleek new triangular design, a speckled finish, and a major bump in video quality compared to older models.
Why Renters Should Care
If you rent an apartment, you usually cannot drill holes into your front door to install a traditional smart doorbell. This device solves that problem completely. It slides directly into the existing optical peephole slot on your door. When you move out, you simply unscrew it and put the original glass peephole back. You get full smart home protection without losing your security deposit or angering your landlord.
The Essential Technical Upgrades
The new camera records in sharp 2K resolution. It features a wide 140-degree field of view, which allows you to see visitors from head to toe. It is completely wireless and runs on a removable rechargeable battery pack. You can talk to guests using two-way audio directly from your smartphone. The only downside is the lack of traditional night vision. The camera relies on low-light tuning, meaning your apartment hallway needs to have decent ambient lighting for the best picture.
